Extending the Flex TextInput control to colorize background on focus
Normal Flex TextInput controls automatically give you that “halo” border whenever the user highlights or sets focus to a text field. Although when Flex first came out, I thought the halo border was a very slick way to show focus, but now I want it to be even more obvious to the user as they tab through a form a select a field for text entry.
First thing I did was create a new ActionScript component that extended TextInput. My new control would work every bit the same as the standard TextInput and only wanted to alter what happens when the fields focus event was fired. Luckily, all I had to do was override the focusIn and focusOut handler’s, call super() to execute any standard logic in the parent method, and set my styles.
The resulting component ended up like this:

Note the getStyle function calls. Typically, I keep all style-related colors and property values stored in a master style-sheet for my applications. This keeps the style-related values out of the views so I can easily manage them in one place.
For this new control, I defined a component-level type (or “class”) selector in my master CSS. Since this component extends TextInput, the normal styles for TextInput also apply, whereas the styles specified in the MyTextInput selector apply only to this control. Keep in mind, the “backgroundFocusInColor” and “backgroundFocusOutColor” properties are entirely made up and are not real component style properties, but it is totally legal to come up with your own style properties!

Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there
are many ways to serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result,
but you can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince.
This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging
around. The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so
you have a meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic,
then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes
and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to a
simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes,
to create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan,
anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of the onions
and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.
Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium
heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour
all over. If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed together,
setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set
aside. Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook
through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to
the packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water
to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and toss
it with a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti
on a serving plate and top with the meatballs and sauce.
Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of
parmesan.

Communications, and the Arts has warned Australian audiences to prepare for scenes of graphic violence,

The film includes brutal depictions of murder using a variety
of weapons, from chainsaws to axes and guns, resulting in explicit injury
detail and copious amounts of blood.
The warning also highlights that the movie portrays self-harm, cannibalism, animal

Despite Australia’s strict film censorship laws, Terrifier 3 was approved for
theatrical release with a strong warning attached.

fill cinemas across the country.
Earlier this month, two people fainted and fled for the exit when it hit a Perth
cinema for early previews.
According to multiple eye witness accounts, one young woman badly

The first fainted during the opening scene, she said in her film review

stairs, I felt so bad for her. I went and checked on her afterwards,’ Clarke claimed.
‘She did get help. She was with her friend.
It really shook me up too. It actually took me out of the film for the moment.’
The reviewer, who has been sharing her thoughts on scary
movies for the past four years, said she has never seen audience
members have such a visceral reaction to a film.

The shocking twist left numerous viewers unsatisfied, and they took to social media
to share their frustration.
While chatting with Good Morning Britain last week, the two
stars were asked if the movie turned out to be ‘everything
they expected’
Immediately, they both turned to look at one
another and smiled. For a few seconds, the two stars sat in silence as they both waited for the other to answer the question
‘Tell them how you feel, Joaquin,’ Lady Gaga said to her costar, who added,
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel
like we achieved what we set out to do.’ He’s seen in the film

‘The ending made the movie a complete waste,’ one outraged user wrote.
‘The ending was pathetic,’ scathed someone else. ‘WTF you mean no Joker?’

‘That ending? It’s so bad that not only it ruins Joker 2 but also the first Joker for the audience,
‘ read a fourth tweet.
‘The Joker had so much potential but that f**king ending ruined everything,’
a fifth said.
The Todd Phillips-directed musical serves as a follow-up to the 2019
box office hit, which was simply titled Joker.
The first film grossed over $1 billion and at the time was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
It received 11 Oscar nominations – two of which it won.
The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first weekend,
and has a low rating of 33 percent and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel
convolutes what could have been a unique character study into a bloated encore that
goes out with a whimper,’ reads one review.
Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and a waste of time.
It’s just tired, not particularly interesting, but it does
look good from a production design standpoint.’

Anyone who knows me has invariably been subject to a spiel about
how much I love Claudia Winkleman. In part, it’s because she’s so silly, and in part, it’s
because I’m a huge fan of everything she presents, from Strictly to The Traitors.
But even more than any of that, it’s because I’m obsessed with everything she wears.
I’ve spent a fortune copying her exact outfits, from
her Sister Jane heart cutout dress to a bedazzled Nadine Merabi blazer that I definitely don’t go
anywhere fancy enough to wear.
Since 2005, Claudia has worked with stylist Sinead McKeefry to perfect her signature style.
I’d describe it as soft goth: lots of black, velvet and chunky knits, with a fair few sequins and prints (particularly tartan)
thrown in. I’m not alone in my reverence:
there are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to tracking down the presenter’s outfits.
But while they offer incredibly useful style inspo, two issues arise repeatedly: Claudia’s clothes are usually hugely
expensive or sold out (or both).
So when the Strictly host stepped out in a typically preppy black velvet mini dress on Sunday, you’d be forgiven for assuming it
was by some top-end designer. Well, you’d be wrong.
The mini dress actually came courtesy of one of our favourite high street brands, Albaray – and you can pick it up for less
than £100.
The dress is made from plush fabric with contrast satin detailing.
The velvet makes it a little festive, perfect for celebratory bashes over
the next few months, particularly when paired with white stilettos à la Claud.
But it could be just as easily dressed down with white trainers or ballet flats
and a trench for a chic office outfit, so you’ll certainly get
your wear out of it.
Like all of Albaray’s products, it’s ethically made using
responsible fabric and sent via a carbon-neutral shipping method, so you can feel good about the dress’s eco-credentials as well as how it looks.
